Password Protected Areas

How do the Password Protected Areas work?
When a visitor tries to open a protected folder or a file located inside such a folder, a dialogue window will pop up and request a username and password for authentication. Once a folder has been secured, you can always edit its password or remove the protection at all.

How do I enable the protection for a specific folder?
To protect a web folder, simply follow these steps:

Username: Fill in a desired username, which will have access to the password protected folder.

Password: Type a password in both fields. The password should be no more than 12 characters long.

Path to be protected: Type the folder name (for example: /www/my-best-domain.com) or use the [...] button to locate it.

When the path has been selected, just click on the Enable Protection button. This action will enable the password protection for the chosen folder and allow only the respective username to access it.

Important: If you have previously set a password protection in a .htaccess file within a folder, you have to disable this protection in order to use the Password Protected Areas for that folder. Both protections are incompatible.
